Northolt concert supports historic St Mary’s Church restoration

A fundraising concert to support the restoration of St Mary’s Church in Northolt, one of the borough’s oldest buildings, took place on Saturday (21 March 2026) evening.

The event featured pianist Julian Gallant, an Ealing councillor, and flautist Alyssa Ilchenko, and was organised by the rector, Revd Julia Jagannath. The concert forms part of ongoing efforts to preserve the historic church.

St Mary’s, located near Northolt village, dates back to the 13th century, with parts of the building added across subsequent centuries.

Councillor Gallant, also a composer and conductor, performed a programme including works by Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, alongside music by local composer Paul Ayres. He was later joined by Ms Ilchenko for pieces by the French composer Claude Bolling, before she returned with an encore of a solo flute sonata composed by Councillor Gallant.

One attendee said: “The performances were absolutely mesmerising — the standard of musicianship was outstanding throughout.”

Another added: “I found the inclusion of the musicians’ own compositions really impressive — it made the evening feel special and distinctive.”
