A brilliant first half display on Tuesday night (10 March 2026) from Hanwell Town secured a crucial three points and pushes the Geordies five points clear of the relegation zone.
Coming from behind after an early goal from Berkhamsted’s J. J Lacey, the away side scored three in 30 minutes. Goals from Luke Cook and a double from Henry Snee saw Hanwell two up at the break. Berkhamsted pulled one back in the middle of the second half but the Geordies hung on for the win.
Hanwell started the game much the better side and created a couple of early chances, the best being a powerful header from Callum Woodcock that was well saved onto the bar by Charlie Horlock. However, it was the home side that opened the scoring ten minutes in. A poor pass across the edge of the box from Seidou Sanogo allowed Lacey to pounce on the ball and slot calmy into the bottom left corner past Sam Beasant.
Two minutes later, Hanwell were level. Yet another long throw from Eli Oladunjoy caused problems for the Berkhamsted defence with Cook poaching in the box and flicking on a header past Horlock to equalise. A much-deserved goal for the away side.
After pulling the game level, Hanwell piled on the pressure causing mistakes from the home side’s defence. Oladunjoy caused more problems through numerous driving runs down the left-hand side. A couple of mistakes from Horlock built momentum for Hanwell.
The momentum payed off as another bursting run from Oladunjoy produced a low cross into the box. New signing Snee did brilliantly to hold the ball up well, turn sharply and prod the ball past Horlock to score his first for the Geordies and put Hanwell ahead.
Berkhamsted grew into the game more after going behind. A flurry of half chances saw Beasant make some good stops to maintain the Hanwell lead. However, the lead was extended seven minutes before the break. It was the new man again Snee, who latched onto a low cross into the box from Harvey Bradbury to fire high into the roof of the net from the right-hand side of the box to put Hanwell two goals up at the break.
The second half started slow and scrappy as the home side looked to reduce the deficit. A few half chances were created but nothing that truly troubled Beasant in goal.
A scuffle involving Bradbury and Luke Andrews right in front of the Hanwell bench added some heat into the second half. Berkhamsted kept knocking at the Hanwell defence with counter attacks but the defence stayed strong.
Twenty minutes from full time, the home side pulled one back through Michael Harding after a well worked passing movement. His shot from the right-hand side of the box was just out of the reach of Beasant into the left corner.
The Hanwell players were tyring so Chris Moore rung the changes with Edward Cooper and Sean Fraser replacing Cook and Snee. This new injection of fresh legs helped significantly with Cooper doing well to relive pressure through some hard running.
With seven minutes added time, the home side through everything at the Geordies. Seabrook and Dwayne Duncan stood firm at the back and cleared the danger. After eight minutes played, the referee blew the full-time whistle on what was a hard fought and well-deserved away win for the Geordies.
The Geordies now have time to recover ahead of a big fixture on Saturday 14 March 2026 where they will face Havant and Waterlooville in a 3pm kick off at the Oliver Connel and Son Community Stadium.
