Acton charity offers free construction training for unemployed young people

An Acton-based charity is offering free construction training to unemployed young people in a bid to help them get into work.

Action West London has opened applications for a scheme that will pay for participants to gain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card, which is required on most commercial building sites.

The training is open to 16 to 30-year-olds from West and north-west London who are not currently in employment, education or training.

As well as covering training and exam costs, the charity says those taking part will receive help with CVs, interview preparation and introductions to employers with vacancies in the construction sector.

Gary Buckley, chief executive officer of Action West London, said: “Breaking into the job market right now is incredibly tough for young people.

“By providing this qualification free of charge, we are removing financial barriers and helping young people access opportunities in the construction sector.”

The training is being delivered from the charity’s Acton offices and eligible residents can apply directly without needing a referral by clicking here.
