Ealing Labour loses seats to Greens, Lib Dems and Tories

Ealing Labour has retained control of Ealing Council despite losing 10 councillors in the 2026 local elections, which saw two of its cabinet members and the local chief whip voted out.

Labour won 46 of the council’s 70 seats following Thursday’s (7 May 2026) vote, down from the 56 seats it held before the election.

The Liberal Democrats increased their presence on Ealing Council from eight seats to 13, while the Conservatives won five seats, the Green Party secured five seats and one independent councillor was elected.

Before the election, Labour held 56 seats on Ealing Council. The Liberal Democrats held eight seats, Conservatives four, while two councillors sat as independents.

In Hanwell Broadway, the Green Party won all three seats from Labour, with Polly Knewstub, Labour cabinet member for healthy equal lives, losing her seat.

The Conservatives also took all three seats in North Greenford, where Labour lost all of its councillors, including Shital Manro, Labour cabinet member for good growth and new homes.

Walpole ward saw the Liberal Democrats take all three seats from Labour, while Gareth Shaw, Labour chief whip, lost his seat after contesting South Acton ward. Mr Shaw had previously represented Walpole.

In Norwood Green, John Martin won a seat as an independent after being deselected by Labour before the election.

This year’s elections saw a record 367 candidates stand across Ealing, the highest number of any London borough in this year’s local elections.
