A new cafe in Pitshanger Lane which will open next week (12 June 2026) as a tea room by day will convert into a tea and wine bar by night with extended opening times.
Doreen’s, which has taken over premises previously used as a hairdresser, has been granted permission by Ealing Council to serve alcohol and extend its opening hours. The venue will now be allowed to open until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, the venue will close at 5pm.
Alcohol on offer will include wine, Champagne, beers and “tea-themed cocktails” and small plates. Booze will be served until 10.30pm between Thursday and Sunday.
One joint objection was raised by two members of the public. Mr Justin Walker and Miss Jessica Stone opposed the licensing of the rear outdoor space, citing risk to children and public nuisance. They argued that the outdoor area is in very close proximity to residential gardens where children play.
The pair argue that this could expose children to “adult language, drunken behaviour and smoke pollution”. Furthermore, they expressed concern that customers in the outdoor area might be able to see directly into a child’s bedroom window, which they fear could cause harm.
To manage noise, this outdoor garden will shut at 5pm on Wednesdays and Sundays, and at 9pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Doreen’s will be closed between Monday and Tuesday.
The Metropolitan Police did not object to the application. Instead, the force agreed 13 conditions with the premises which it must follow at all times.
These conditions mandate the installation of a CCTV system that records interior and exterior views, stores footage for 31 days, and can be downloaded instantly for police or council officers. The venue must also keep a refusals book to record any denied alcohol sales, and an incident log to track crimes, ejections, complaints, disorder, and equipment faults.
Customers will also be banned from smoking in the garden area, instead forced to smoke outside the front of the premises.
Doreen’s must ensure there is signage requesting patrons to leave quietly to prevent noise nuisance, alongside rules that no glass, bottles, or open vessels can be taken outside the premises. All staff must be trained to ensure drunk or underage individuals are not served alcohol.
Returning the decision, Councillor Kim Kaur Nagpal said that the panel noted the concerns of the two objectors. However, Councillor Nagpal went on to say that the applicant had demonstrated “relevant experience” in managing licensing premises and therefore can uphold the licensing conditions.
