Remembrance Sunday services held in Ealing, Greenford and Southall

Residents across the borough have paid their respects to those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars and other conflicts, with Remembrance Sunday (8 November 2026) services taking place in Ealing, Greenford and Southall.

Among those attending the service at Ealing War Memorial, outside Pitzhanger Manor, were the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Faduma Mohamed, the King’s representative, Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki, Ealing Central and Acton MP Dr Rupa Huq, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon Bassam Mahfouz, local politicians and faith leaders, veterans, serving members of the armed forces and other dignitaries.

The formal proceeedings began with The Last Post shortly before the two-minute silence at 11am. The mayor’s Exhortation followed. Those gathered responded, “We will remember them”, before wreaths were laid at the memorial.

The Reverend Dean Ayres of St Joseph’s Church in Northolt then introduced the multi-faith part of the service. After the hymn ‘Abide With Me’, Jonathan Glass, vice-chair of Ealing United Synagogue, and Father Timothy Gorham of Ealing Abbey offered prayers. Imam Safeer Khan of Darus Salaam Mosque gave a reading.

The Reverend Ayres gave a reflection and, after the hymn ‘The Lord’s Our Shepherd’, a blessing. The service ended with the national anthem and a march-past.

North Acton Councillor Hodan Haili also wrote on X, “Today, we pause to remember those who gave their lives so that we might live in peace and freedom. We remember the courage of those who served, the sacrifices of those who never returned, and the families whose lives were forever changed by war.”

In Greenford, members of the local Royal British Legion branch marched from their headquarters in Oldfield Lane South to Greenford War Memorial for an 11am service.

In Southall, residents gathered at the war memorial on The Green at 10.45am and observed a two-minute silence at 11am. Those attending were then invited to St John’s Church in Church Avenue for a short ceremony and refreshments.

Ealing Southall MP Deirdre Costigan wrote on X, “This Remembrance Sunday, we pause to honour those across the world who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We will remember them.”

Ahead of Sunday’s services, Ealing Council leader Councillor Peter Mason said, “It is an opportunity to give thanks, pay our respects and ensure that their service is never forgotten.”
