Five friends raise £8,451 for Ealing hospice in 100,000-step challenge

Five friends have raised £8,451 for Meadow House Hospice in Ealing after taking on a 100,000-step walking challenge, smashing their original £6,000 fundraising target.

Daniel Madden organised the walk last month (17 October 2026) in memory of his grandmother, Maureen Hernandez, who spent the final months of her life receiving care at the hospice.

Mr Madden was joined by friends Sean Barrett, Lee Darbon, Richard Blair and Muna Suleman for a walk of more than 40 miles across London.

Their route took them through Twickenham, Kingston upon Thames, Putney and Chelsea before heading back towards west London, with additional laps of local parks to help reach their step target.

The five friends, who all live in West London, took on the challenge after Mr Madden spotted someone attempting 100,000 steps in a day on Instagram and decided to give it a go himself.

The group went on to raise £2,451 more than their £6,000 target, with over 260 people donating through their JustGiving page.

Speaking to EALING.NEWS, Mr Madden said: “This challenge was about so much more than walking 100,000 steps. It was our way of giving something back to a place that means an enormous amount to each of us, in some way.

“My Nan Maureen was someone I was incredibly close to, and the care she received at Meadow House during the final months of her life was truly exceptional. They didn’t just look after her; they supported all of us as a family, showing compassion, kindness and dignity when we needed it most.”

He added: “We’re incredibly proud to have raised £8,451 and I hope it will help them continue the amazing work they do for other families.”

Donations can still be made through Mr Madden’s JustGiving page.
