Residents, students and health professionals came together at Ealing’s University of West London to explore how traditional foods can help create healthier and more sustainable communities.
Future Plates, Future Chefs was hosted by the London Geller College of Hospitality as part of the Planetary Foods and Cultural Competence Project.
Led locally by the Healthier Lifestyle Service at West London NHS Trust, with support from Ealing Council and the Ealing Food Partnership, the project is helping develop a community cookbook celebrating the borough’s diverse food cultures.
The event featured dishes created by local residents, including Goan cucumber cake, butternut squash masala and spiced couscous, alongside demonstrations from food experts and hospitality lecturers.
Rosanna Jones, health improvement practitioner at West London NHS Trust, said the project aims to ensure “cultural food heritage and sustainable, culturally relevant, health-promoting diets can exist side by side”.
