Councillor Mark Sanders, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor for Hanger Hill ward in May 2026, reflects on his first few months representing the ward and the issues residents have been raising with him.
“After four months as a new councillor for Hanger Hill ward, working with my fantastic Liberal Democrat colleagues of Councillor Zissimos and Councillor Oxley, it has been a very busy time for training and meeting residents and receiving case work.
“On the 30th June I was able to make my maiden speech to full Council, highlighting issues that come up often on the doorstep in Hanger Hill.
“Starting with fly tipping, illegal outbuildings and HMO’s, air pollution, traffic flow and Ealing Council poor response to emails and phone calls from residents.
“One of my favourite activities is the monthly litter pick, organised by the West Twyford residents association, using equipment supplied by Lager Can.
“As I believe site visits are key to understanding local issues and engaging with residents who can provide much required local knowledge and history.
“I am being proactive rather than reactive to issues as it is a better way to achieve successful outcomes. I am engaging with local resident groups via their chairs and members, plus our local Hanger Hill Met police force, and have had meetings with Transport for London and the Parks team at Ealing Council.
“A key focus for the Hanger Hill Councillors is section 106 monies and making sure they get spent and on the correct projects as agreed in the original documents.
“I have met with the Old Oak and Park Royal Development (ODPC), as part of their land borders Hanger Hill ward, with their plans to build 20,000 homes over the next 20 years, will impact our ward and all of Ealing.”
