Hundreds join Ealing Great British Spring Clean

Volunteers from across Ealing collected more than 2,500 bags of rubbish during this year’s Great British Spring Clean, as a borough-wide community effort targeted litter and fly-tipping hotspots.

The campaign, which ran from 13 March – 29 March 2026, saw around 450 volunteers contribute a combined 1,378 hours of work. In total, 2,507 bags of waste were removed and 288 fly-tipping incidents reported, according to figures released by local environmental group LAGER Can.

Participants included students from West London College’s Ealing and Southall campuses, pupils from Ark Byron School, Derwentwater Primary School and Khalsa Primary School, and community groups including the Eco Team from St Thomas’s Church, Hanwell and Samurai Football Club.

Much of the work was focused on the group’s “All Parks” project, which covered all 148 parks across Ealing and its seven towns. According to LAGER Can around 70% of both the work carried out and waste collected came from this initiative, with volunteers focusing on less visible areas such as woodland and park edges.

Cathy Swift, chair of LAGER Can, said the response from volunteers had been “extremely encouraging”.

She said: “Just like last year, our Great British Spring Clean All Parks project proved extremely popular with our members, whose enthusiasm never ceases to impress. It was also wonderful to be joined by so many schools and community groups from across the borough.”

Ms Swift added: “We estimate around 450 volunteers took part, with many returning more than once. While Ealing Council’s cleansing crews work hard to keep the busiest areas clean, we still found significant amounts of rubbish in harder-to-reach places, particularly around the edges of parks and in wooded areas.”
