Funeral details announced for Councillor Dr Aysha Raza

Funeral arrangements have been confirmed for Dr Aysha Raza, the Labour councillor for Central Greenford, whose sudden death on Sunday (15 February 2026) has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across Ealing and beyond.

Her funeral prayer (Janaza) will take place on Thursday (19 February 2026) at Harrow Mosque, 34 Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2SQ. Those attending are asked to arrive between 12.45pm and 1.00pm to allow time for parking and for Zuhr and Janaza prayers.

Residents and colleagues “of all faiths and none” are welcome to attend the funeral prayers at the mosque.

In line with Islamic tradition, Muslim men are invited to join the family for the burial, which will take place at Greenford Cemetery, Windmill Lane, Greenford, UB6 9DR. The burial will take place at 2.30pm prompt.

The family have requested no flowers. Those wishing to leave floral tributes are asked to place them outside Ealing Town Hall.

Councillor Raza, who was also a trustee of the Young Ealing Foundation, was first elected in 2014 and served the ward for more than a decade. She grew up in Greenford and attended Oldfield and Coston Primary schools, a local connection that friends said shaped her commitment to the area.

Between 2021 and 2023 she served as cabinet member for tackling crime and inequality, becoming Ealing Council’s first Muslim woman cabinet member.

As well as a trustee of the Young Ealing Foundation, Councillor Raza was also active in a number of community organisations across the borough, including The Ealing Wildlife Group, The Holy Cross Players and The Royal British Legion. She served as a governor at Stanhope Primary School and William Perkin High School.

Following Dr Raza’s passing. James Murray, MP for Ealing North, said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our friend and colleague,” adding that she had been “a compassionate voice for residents” who “fought tirelessly” for improvements to public services.

Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, said she was “shocked and heartbroken” and described Dr Raza as a long-standing friend and dedicated public servant.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said there were “no words to fully express the shock and deep sadness” at her death and praised her advocacy for the NHS and her work advancing equality.

Ealing Council leader Peter Mason said her passing was “incredibly saddening” and said Dr Raza’s “energy and enthusiasm” for local campaigns was evident in everything she did.

A book of condolence remains open at Perceval House, Ealing Council’s headquarters, where residents can sign it between 9am and 7pm daily.

Ealing Council has also confirmed it will hold a memorial for Dr Raza after Ramadan finishes in mid-March.
