West Acton Primary School has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence by Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) UK, following its success in achieving the prestigious Inclusive School Award.
The accolade places the Ealing school among a select group of institutions nationally celebrated for their commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
The recognition follows a detailed two-day assessment in July 2025, during which IQM praised West Acton’s “deeply embedded culture of inclusion”. The report commended the school’s ethos as one where “inclusion is not just a policy but a lived value”, visible in every classroom and playground.
Assessors highlighted the school’s rich multicultural makeup — with more than 660 pupils speaking multiple languages — and its dedicated provision for children with special educational needs, including an Additionally Resourced Provision for pupils with autism. The school’s trauma-informed and therapeutic approach to wellbeing, which includes in-house psychotherapy and the use of tools such as Zones of Regulation and Microsoft Reflect, was also singled out for praise.
The curriculum, described as adaptive and culturally responsive, was noted for incorporating digital tools, visual supports and decolonised content to make learning accessible to all. Assessors also cited strong relationships with parents and carers, especially families new to the UK education system.
Headteacher Karen Kondo said the award reflected “the dedication of our staff, the strength of our partnerships with families, and above all the resilience and brilliance of our children”. She added: “Becoming a Centre of Excellence gives us the opportunity to share our inclusive ethos more widely and continue to learn from others.”
