A University of West London student has been awarded a prestigious scholarship recognising both academic excellence and community commitment.
Natasha Ray, who is studying MSci Children’s and Mental Health Nursing, has received a Scholarship from the Sandhu Charitable Foundation Trust. The award is open to Home and International students in Level 5 of an undergraduate course in the university’s College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.
Ms Ray achieved a first-year weighted average of 89%. During clinical placements, patients and families described her as “caring, gentle, respectful and empathetic”, adding that she made them “feel really comfortable” and “calm”.
Living with a congenital visual impairment and long-term mental health difficulties has shaped her ambition to deliver care that helps people feel safe and understood. Alongside her studies, she mentors visually impaired young people through the charity LOOK UK and contributes to service design at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Her personal tutor, Chiara Baiocchi, said: “I have no doubt she will make outstanding use of it.”
Ms Ray said the award would motivate her to “shape positive change”.
