A Metropolitan Police crackdown on illegal e-bikes and e-scooters across London, including in Ealing, has seen more than 2,500 seized in the first seven months of 2026, exceeding the 2,200 seized in 2025.
The latest figures come after police carried out enforcement operations in Ealing over the past year targeting illegally modified e-bikes, illegal e-scooters and uninsured riders.
During an operation in Ealing Broadway in September 2025, police seized 10 illegal e-bikes.
Another operation in Ealing Broadway last month (June 2026) resulted in two illegal e-bikes and one illegal e-scooter being seized. One rider was reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, while two others were dealt with for having no insurance.
Police say illegally modified e-bikes are often linked to offences including phone snatching, robbery and drug dealing. Some are also ridden without the appropriate licence or insurance and can be modified to travel at speeds above the legal limit for electrically assisted pedal cycles.
Commander Neerav Patel, who leads the Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “We are continuing to come down hard on criminals using illegal e-bikes and e-scooters to commit offences across London. These vehicles are often used to help offenders evade police, putting the public at risk in the process.
“We will continue to target those who break the law while working with partners to keep London’s roads and neighbourhoods safe.”
