Hanwell mum takes on 100km charity challenge

A Hanwell mum is taking on a 100km ultra event over two days alongside her sister-in-law after nearly losing her daughter in a devastating road accident.

Mamta Sohal, 56, will tackle the Lake District Ultra Challenge this weekend (6-7 June) to raise money for London Air Ambulance, the charity she credits with helping save the life of her daughter, Eshana.

The 24-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries last year after being struck by a motorcycle while out running.

London Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene before Eshana was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, where she was placed in an induced coma. She spent seven weeks in hospital followed by a further seven weeks of intensive neurorehabilitation and continues her recovery as an outpatient.

Mamta, who lives in Hanwell, will take part alongside her sister-in-law, Debjani.

She said: “We nearly lost Eshana that day. The care she received from London Air Ambulance and the team at St Mary’s was nothing short of extraordinary.”

Mamta has already raised more than £5,000 through her JustGiving page,, more than double her original £2,000 target, to support the charity’s lifesaving work across London.
