Visitors to Gunnersbury Park & Museum will start seeing new signs, maps and branding across the historic estate as part of a makeover marking its 100th anniversary.
Jointly owned by Ealing Council and Hounslow Council, Gunnersbury said it has introduced the changes to make it easier for visitors to find their way around the 72-hectare estate and discover more of its park, museum and other facilities.
The changes come after the organisation said many visitors were unaware the museum existed or found it difficult to explore everything the estate has to offer.
The makeover includes a new visual identity, updated maps and bright yellow signs across the estate. Developed by London design consultancy Wiedemann Lampe, the new signage will be introduced in phases to help visitors navigate the grounds more easily.
The new look also includes illustrations inspired by the park’s history, wildlife and visitors, together with a special “Gunnersbury 100” logo for centenary events.
David Bowler, chief executive of Gunnersbury Park & Museum, said: “Our organisation is undergoing a moment of transformation, marking its centenary while modernising operations and seeking to strengthen its role at the heart of the local community. We wanted a new identity to match our ambition, to drive wider visitation, to highlight our gem of a museum, and to inspire a wider audience to visit again and again.”
Benji Wiedemann, executive creative director and co-founder of Wiedemann Lampe, said: “We wanted to deliver an identity and wayfinding system that reflected the enjoyment and joyfulness of the park, distinguishes it from London’s other green spaces, and supports its ambition for the future.”
