TG Jones is to close its Greenford store next month, bringing to an end a retail presence at Westway Cross dating back to when WHSmith was one of the retail parks’s original anchor tenants.
The store will close on 26 September 2026 following the approval of a restructuring plan for TG Jones, the company has confirmed to EALING.NEWS.
Before becoming TG Jones, the store traded as WHSmith, which was one of the original retailers at Westway Cross.
WHSmith initially occupied the unit which is now home to a Marks & Spencer Foodhall.
During late 2016 and early 2017, Marks & Spencer moved into the former WHSmith unit, with WHSmith relocating within the retail park to the former Jessops store — the unit now occupied by TG Jones.
The Greenford store was subsequently rebranded as TG Jones after WHSmith sold its high street business to Modella Capital in 2025.
A spokesperson for TG Jones told EALING.NEWS: “Following the approval of the TG Jones restructuring plan, our store at Westway in Greenford will be closing on 26 September.
“We are currently supporting our in-store colleagues during this process, and we would like to thank all of our loyal customers who have shopped with us during our time in the town.”
TG Jones did not answer questions from EALING.NEWS about how many jobs will be affected by the Greenford closure or whether staff have been offered roles at other stores.
The closure comes amid a wider restructuring of TG Jones, which took over hundreds of former WHSmith high street stores following their sale to Modella Capital.
The restructuring plan could see up to 150 of TG Jones’s roughly 450 stores close, while changes to rents are also being sought at other locations.
WHSmith sold its UK high street business to Modella Capital for £76 million in 2025, bringing an end to more than 230 years of the WHSmith name on Britain’s high streets.
The sale did not include WHSmith’s travel business, with its stores at airports and railway stations continuing to operate under the WHSmith name.
