A brilliant performance from Hanwell Town on Tuesday night (11 August 2026) gave them their first victory of the new season. Two goals from Harvey Bradbury cancelled out Joseph O’Loughlin’s equaliser and moves the Geordies up to fifth in the table.
The game started with chances for both sides early on but nothing clear cut. The Geordie’s best chances came through a header from Bradbury and a shot that just missed the post from Jordan Espritt. Hanwell built on that momentum and opened the scoring 26 minutes in. A challenge in the box on Zak Joseph led to a penalty that Bradbury calmy converted high into the roof of the net.
Following the goal, Hanwell continued to dominate and created more chances. However, the visitors grew into the game. Jedidiah Brown picked up a loose ball and tried to find the far corner but Sam Beasant got down well to stop the attacker.
Five minutes from half time, Basingstoke equalised through O’Loughlin. After a concession of crosses that were cleared, O’Loughlin found the ball at his feet and he tapped home into an empty net. This was the final act of an equal first half.
From the start of the second half, the Geordies were the better team and applied pressure on Basingstoke. Chances for Joe Wilson and Bradbury came and went but the game was still equal.
That was until the 59th minute. Dwayne Duncan did brilliantly to drive forward from defence and deliver a teasing ball into the box. This was flicked onto the bar, leaving the striker to head home into an empty net, restoring the Geordies one goal advantage.
After four substitutions from Basingstoke, Hanwell still bossed the game and looked very strong.
Six minutes from time, Basingstoke’s Jeremiah Okine-Peters cut in from the right, created some room and fired towards the goal. The ball flicked off the top of the crossbar and out for a goal kick. This was the visitors last chance of the game.
The hosts controlled the final stages of the game, keeping the ball in the attacking half and even creating some final chances.
After five added minutes, the referee called full time and gave the Geordies their first win of the season.
Hanwell return to action on Saturday (15 August 2026) when they face Sholing in a 3pm kick off at the Oliver Conell and Sons Community Stadium.
