Historic chapels at South Ealing Cemetery are set to benefit from new improvements after Ealing Parks Foundation secured a £20,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.
The funding will help support work at the 21-acre cemetery, which contains two Grade II-listed Victorian chapels dating back to 1861.
The charity said the money will be used for practical improvements including extra gardening equipment for volunteers, new bird and bat boxes, planting projects and clearer signage around the site.
Future plans being explored include an audio trail focused on the cemetery’s history and wildlife, as well as more community activities and volunteering opportunities.
Jane Fernley and Paul Carter, co-chairs of Ealing Parks Foundation, said: “We are delighted with this award People have been incredibly positive about the cemetery since we first became involved and this funding will help more visitors discover the nature and heritage of this special place.”
The foundation will also host a series of summer events, including volunteering sessions, a Wandering Fox Market visit in June and a bat walk in July.
