Councillor leads crackdown on illegal parking in Hanger Hill

An Ealing Liberal Democrat councillor has led an enforcement operation to remove illegally parked and abandoned vehicles from streets in Hanger Hill after years of complaints from residents and businesses.

Councillor Jonathan Oxley, who represents the ward, worked with council officers and police to tackle what he described as a longstanding problem with rogue garages leaving damaged and unlicensed vehicles on residential roads, pavements and loading bays. Residents said the practice had made parking difficult, obstructed deliveries and created safety hazards for pedestrians and drivers.

Councillor Oxley said that when he visited the area earlier this year he found discarded parking tickets and a wheel clamp that had been sawn off. According to Councillor Oxley, Ealing Council data revealed that in January 2025, 27 parking tickets were issued in the area but only two were paid.

Last week (5 September 2025), a coordinated operation led to 11 vehicles being towed away, including two Jaguars, three Land Rovers and two Range Rovers. Several of the cars were linked to outstanding fines, with one Range Rover owing 10 unpaid tickets. Fifteen misused trade plates were also discovered and reported to the DVLA.

Speaking about the action taken, Councillor Oxley, said: “Liberal Democrats believe illegal parking is a scourge, which I’m delighted is being addressed by the council at my instigation. Today’s enforcement operation to remove 11 illegally parked cars in Hanger Hill is just the start – much more needs to be done across the borough.”

He added: “This action is testimony to what can be done with Liberal Democrats councillors at the helm and in concert with the local community, the police, and dedicated and professional council officers.”

The council is also consulting on new lorry parking bays to ease congestion and planning repairs to pavements and road markings.
