Rupa Huq MP raises concerns with HS2 boss over Old Oak disruption

Dr Rupa Huq, the Labour MP for Ealing Central and Acton, has pressed HS2 and its leadership to address residents’ complaints about disruption caused by the construction of Old Oak Common station, after visiting the vast West London site last week.

The station, set to become one of the largest interchanges in the capital and a key part of the high-speed rail project, is under construction at the heart of plans to redevelop Old Oak into a new town.

During her visit, Dr Huq met with HS2’s chief executive, Mark Wild, to highlight frustrations over timescales, local transport links and the impact of construction.

Local groups, including the Old Oak Alliance, have warned that the development is bringing noise, dust and heavy traffic to surrounding neighbourhoods, as well as affecting green spaces. Dr Huq said: “My constituents suffering noise, dust, and vibrating houses need respect and proper compensation.”

HS2 has promised to support communities through its Community and Business Fund, which provides grants to local firms, schools and charities. But Dr Huq stressed the need for stronger commitments on transport connections, pointing to her ongoing campaign for better Elizabeth Line services, an issue repeatedly raised by W3 residents.

Reflecting on her discussions with Mr Wild, Dr Huq said: “This seemed a refreshing change in acknowledging past failure and Mr Wild’s willingness to meet residents himself this coming Autumn is welcome – but my constituents will need stronger assurances that this marks a step away from being put on hold for years on end.”
