A 2018 University of West London graduate in Music Technology and Radio Broadcasting is part of the Oscar and BAFTA-winning team for Best Sound on Dune: Part Two.
Mátyás Tóth, who studied at the Ealing university, did a three year degree which he says has helped with his career and opportunities.
Mr Tóth said: “My university years helped me clarify exactly which direction I wanted to take in working with sound and motivated me in determining my path. It was also exciting to gain insight into my professors’ professional work.”
On working on Dune, he said: “I feel so grateful to have contributed to this amazing project. Huge credit to Gareth John, our brilliant production sound mixer, as well as my incredibly talented teammates Tom Harrison and Freya Clarke. The collaboration, creativity and dedication within the team made this experience truly special, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved together.
During his time at University in Ealing, Mr Tóth was taught by Sam Sutton, currently senior lecturer in Music Technology at London College of Music (LCM), which helped to introduce the relationship between film and sound. This made him then consider pursuing sound production for films.
Mr Sutton said, “We could not be prouder of Mátyás, for his incredible achievement in winning a shiny Oscar and BAFTA for Dune: Part Two. From his time with us, it was clear he had both the talent and dedication to go far, and to see him thriving at this level is truly special. His success is a testament to his hard work and passion for audio post-production, and it’s moments like these that make what we do so rewarding.”
