Trailfinders Women sign Scotland star Francesca McGhie

Trailfinders Women have signed Scotland international Francesca McGhie, marking a major addition to their backline ahead of the new Premiership Women’s Rugby 2025/26 season.

The 22-year-old winger from Edinburgh arrives at the Ealing club with a reputation as one of rugby’s brightest young talents. Known for her pace and sharp footwork, McGhie offers a versatile attacking threat across the back three.

After winning the Tennent’s Premiership with Watsonians in the 2022–23 season, McGhie’s meteoric rise saw her nominated for World Rugby’s Breakthrough Player of the Year in 2023. She then joined Leicester Tigers, playing a key role in their debut Premiership Women’s Rugby campaign.

On the international stage, McGhie has earned 22 caps for Scotland since debuting in the 2023 Six Nations. She has scored 10 tries in that time, including a dramatic late score in this year’s 26–19 win over Ireland.

Speaking on her move, McGhie said: “There’s a great ambition here, and there are people and coaches here that I think can add to my game – I feel this is a team I can really develop with. I’m looking forward to joining up with the group and I’m excited to see what we can do together.”

Head Coach Barney Maddison added: ““Francesca is a hugely exciting talent with incredible potential. She’s already proven herself at the international level, and her speed, agility, and attacking instincts will be a great asset for us. We’re delighted to have her on board.”
