Hanwell Town progressed into the semi-final of the Middlesex Senior Cup on Tuesday evening (4 November 2025), after a 4-2 victory against Rayners Lane at their Tithe Farm ground.
Whilst the Geordies eventually ran out comfortable winners, they were made to endure some uncomfortable periods and Rayners Lane should be credited with a commendable performance – especially as they were forced into three first half injury substitutions, which included an outfield player needing to play goalkeeper for 75 minutes.
Hanwell initially responded positively to their 4-0 loss against Taunton Town on Saturday and dominated the opening exchanges. Harry Rice and Jordy Mongoy missed chances, but Eddie Cooper soon turned pressure into a goal for the visitors with a brilliant finish on 14 minutes.
Totally against the run of play though, Guiseppe Delgaudio scored five minutes later to pull Rayners Lane level.
For much of the remaining first half, the equaliser did little to change the flow of the match and the Geordies continued to dominate. However, as half-time beckoned, Rayners Lane started to look increasingly dangerous on the counter-attack and in the 43rd minute, went 2-1 ahead through a Qasim Khan goal.
An action packed first 45 minutes still wasn’t over though. After a well-worked corner routine, Hanwell’s Ryan Cole scored from a tight angle to ensure all was square during the break.
In total contrast to the first, much of the second half turned into a somewhat drab affair – with neither side creating many chances.
All of that changed in the last 15 minutes though when Hanwell substitute, Kam English, fired home to make it 3-2. Soon after, a winding run from Jordy Mongoy ended in a brilliant strike that nestled into the top corner.
Speaking after the match, Hanwell manager, Chris Moore, said whilst he wasn’t “over the moon” with the performance, he was “over the moon” with the result.
