Ealing’s own Chloe Kelly has once again etched her name into the history books, securing England’s triumph in the Women’s 2025 Euros final with a decisive penalty against Spain.
The dramatic match, held in Basel, Switzerland, ended in a 3–1 victory for the Lionesses after going to penalties.
Kelly, 27, who grew up in Hanwell and attended Elthorne Park High School, stepped up to calmly slot home the winning kick – repeating the triumph she gave to England and made her a national hero in 2022.
That year, she delivered the winning goal in extra time against Germany, sealing England’s first major women’s tournament win. At that time, Kelly played for Manchester City and earlier this month (2 July 2025), it was confirmed she had joined Arsenal on a permanent basis.
In 2023, Ealing Council passed a motion to give Kelly Freedom of the Borough.
At a special council meeting of the Labour-run council on 11 July 2023, the motion to recognise Chloe’s achievement was read out to councillors by council leader Councillor Peter Mason.
Councillor Mason said: “I move formally that Chloe Kelly be awarded the freedom of the borough and reserve everybody’s right to speak at a celebration event in the not too distant future.”
