Match report: Hanwell Town 2 v Basingstoke Town 1

Hanwell Town ran out deserved 2-1 winners against Basingstoke Town on Saturday (25 April 2026), to confirm their step 3 status next season.

With Basingstoke already safe and Hanwell needing just a point to stay up, the Geordies enjoyed a relatively relaxed afternoon under the baking west London sun.

The home side’s season ended in rather fitting fashion with both their goals coming from two of Eli Oladunjoye’s now trademark long throw-ins. Will Hall tapped one in on 13 minutes before Henry Snee poked another home five minutes after the half-time break.

It wasn’t all black and white though. Joe Grant was a particular handful down the left and on 40 minutes, it was him who – after a poorly judged back pass – Hanwell keeper, Sam Beasant, had no choice but to foul in the penalty area. After a stuttering run-up, James Clark coolly converted the resulting spot-kick.

Grant had a good opportunity to pull Basingstoke level in the 56th minute and Hall went close with another header. But with the temperature rising and other scores going Hanwell’s way, the game slowed in the final stages and both sides seemed pleased to accept their step 3 fate.

Speaking after the match, Hanwell manager, Chris Moore, thought the win was “well-deserved” and that with their 14th position assured, it was time for the club to “kick on”.
