A Hanwell teacher has come third in a challenging full-distance Ironman triathlon, held in Eastbourne last weekend, raising over £1,000 for a local special needs school.
Nacho Carbonell, who has been teaching at St Ann’s School in Hanwell since 2016, completed the 140.6-mile race at the Tribourne Festival of Endurance on Saturday (20 July 2025), finishing in 14 hours and taking third place overall. The triathlon included a 2.4-mile sea swim, a 112-mile cycle, and a full marathon.
Braving what organisers described as challenging sea and weather conditions, Mr Carbonell took on the event as part of a fundraising campaign for the St Ann’s Foundation, a charity that supports the students.
The money raised will help fund activities and equipment for pupils at the school, which caters for 11–19-year-olds with severe and multiple learning difficulties.
He exceeded his original fundraising target of £1,000 ahead of the event and is now preparing to compete in another Ironman-distance triathlon, the ICAN Gandia–Valencia, in Spain this October.
