Following news earlier this month that current Ealing Central & Acton MP, Dr Rupa Huq has been reselected to be the Labour candidate for the next General Election by local party members, Dr Huq has now revealed she has been selected by every Ealing Central and Acton Labour Party branch and affiliate.
Dr Huq, has held the constituency which includes Acton Central, Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common, East Acton, Hanger Hill, South Acton, Southfield, and Walpole wards since 2015.
In a tweet, she said: “It’s official! Delighted to be #reselected by every Ealing central and Acton Labour Party branch and affiliate as candidate at the next General Election. As ever, proud to represent my home seat and ready to work hard for the @UKLabour Government we desperately need #BringItOn”
The next election, which some political pundits have said may not be until 2024, will be the fourth that Dr Hug will have contested in Ealing for Labour.
In 2015, she won narrowly against incumbent Angie Bray by getting 22,002 against Bray’s 21,728 votes. In 2017, she got 33,037 votes against ex Ealing Councillor and now Conservative MP for Beaconsfield Joy Morrissey 19,230 votes.
In the most recent election of 2019, Dr Huq won against Ealing councillor and now local Conservative leader Julian Gallant by getting 28,132 votes to his 14,832 votes.
