Dr Rupa Huq, the Labour MP for Ealing Central and Acton, has visited the Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop as it marks 40 years of fundraising, with organisers confirming the volunteer-run pop-up will stay open until Thursday (18 December 2025).
Sue Green, a co-founder of the shop, said the decision reflected changing habits among customers as more people choose to deliver cards by hand. G
Ms Green said: “With more and more cards being delivered by hand these days, it makes sense for us to stay open beyond the last posting date for Christmas.”
The shop is based at the Church of Christ the Saviour on New Broadway in Ealing and is open daily from 10am to 4pm until 18 December. It was founded in 1985 and has become a regular fixture of the local festive season, staffed by volunteers and stocked with a wide range of charity cards.
Ms Green said Dr Huq’s visit was part of the anniversary celebrations: “It was a real pleasure to welcome Rupa back to the Shop. She’s been a great supporter over the years.”
Since it opened, the Christmas card shop has generated close to £1m for nearly 50 charities, with proceeds distributed across a range of national organisations and local branches.
More than 200 card designs are on sale this year, with proceeds supporting the local branches of: Action Aid, Age UK Ealing, Alzheimer’s Society, Book Aid International, Bereft, Bridge of Hope, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Cardiac Risk in the Young, CAFOD, Combat Stress, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Diabetes UK, Ealing Samaritans, Ealing Amnesty International, Epilepsy Research UK, Facing the World, Freedom From Torture, Friends of Hammersmith Hospital, Meadow House Hospice, Mind, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Multiple Sclerosis Trust, Parkinson’s UK, RNLI, Save the Children, Soil Association, Stella Maris – Apostleship of the Sea, St Mark’s Hospital Foundation Trust, Society of St Vincent de St Paul, Transform Trade and Unique.
