HMO landlords, tenants and residents are being invited by Ealing Council to discuss how shared housing affects communities and neighbourhoods across the borough at a workshop later this month.
Ealing Council is holding the event at its Perceval House headquarters in Ealing Broadway on 17 September 2026 from 6pm to 8pm, bringing together people who own HMOs, live in them or live nearby.
HMOs are properties occupied by people from more than one household who share facilities such as kitchens or bathrooms.
The two-hour free workshop will give landlords, HMO tenants, other residents and community groups the opportunity to raise issues about shared housing and discuss their experiences.
Ealing Council will also explain the powers and responsibilities it and other local authorities have in relation to HMOs and says feedback from the workshop could influence its future approach to them.
The workshop is separate from Ealing Council’s current consultation, which runs until 24 September 2026, on whether to continue additional licensing for smaller HMOs for another five years from April 2027.
Councillor Louise Brett, Ealing Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for safe and genuinely affordable homes, said: “For many people, shared accommodation is one of the most affordable ways to access housing, but we know that many others have concerns about the way those homes are managed.
“If you have an interest in the private rented sector, I hope you can join us at this event. Your views and experiences will help us better understand how HMOs affect local communities and inform future thinking and potential policy considerations.”
