Ealing under-13 runner wins Middlesex cross country title

Sophia Davies, an 11-year-old athlete from Ealing, has claimed the under-13 girls’ title at the Middlesex County Cross Country Championships on Saturday (13 December 2025), qualifying her for next year’s UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships.

At Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre, Sophia moved to the front early in the 3km event and steadily extended her advantage, finishing 20 seconds clear at 11 minutes and 52 seconds.

Sophia’s county title places her among Middlesex’s qualifiers for the national inter-counties meeting at Wollaton Park in Nottingham on 7 March 2026, where young runners from across the UK will compete.

Sophia, who only took up running two years ago, said: “I love racing the Hillingdon course, so I was happy that I could take the win again this year on this course, it was a lot of fun.”

The victory is the latest achievement for the young runner, who won silver in the under-13 girls’ race at the London Youth Games cross country last month (November 2025) while representing Ealing.

She is currently ranked third in the UK in the under-13 age group over both 1500m and 5km, and is the only first-year under-13 athlete listed in the national top 10 for those distances.

The trophy she collected has previously been won by Georgia Hunter, another Ealing athlete whose name is engraved on it.
