A newly graduated interior architecture student from Ealing’s University of West London has won national recognition for a project reimagining North Acton station and its surrounding area.
Ivana Stoimenovska was highly commended at the Interior Educators National Student Awards for her project, North Acton Urban Layers, which reimagines the station as a community destination rather than simply a transport interchange.
The proposal includes a pedestrian bridge linking North Acton with Park Royal and Old Oak Common, alongside a rooftop garden, community food hall and improved step-free access.
The judges recognised the project in the awards’ Social and Cultural Agency category, which celebrates designs that respond to the needs of local communities.
Sotirios Varsamis, senior lecturer and course leader for BA (Hons) interior architecture at Ealing’s University of West London, said: “Receiving a Highly Commended distinction in the IE Awards 2026 places Ivana’s project among the three nationally recognised projects in the Social Impact Award category.
“This is an outstanding achievement that reflects the strength of her community-led research in North Acton and demonstrates how interior architecture can create meaningful social impact and respond sensitively to the needs of local communities.”
