One-month closure ahead of Gunnersbury centenary year

Gunnersbury Park & Museum will close its museum for a month from 5 January 2026 to 3 February 2026 as it prepares a major programme to mark 100 years of public ownership in 2026.

The temporary shutdown is intended to allow “essential refurbishment and conservation work” ahead of a centenary year of events, exhibitions and activities. The surrounding park will remain fully open and free to the public throughout the works, with a new park café, Pure in the Park, due to begin serving visitors from 5 January.

Jointly owned by Ealing Council and Hounslow Council, Gunnersbury is planning a year-long programme that organisers said will reflect the park’s history and its role in the local community, as well as its place in the wider life of London over the past century.

A community fete is planned for 25 May 2026, followed by what is billed as the park’s first Gunnersbury Family Dog Show on 21 June 2026.

At the centre of the celebrations, the museum will host a new exhibition exploring 100 years of the park’s story, focusing on the people who have shaped it. Corinne Wan, head of museum services, said: “Visitors to the exhibition will be taken on a journey through the park’s history. Through photographs, archival materials and voices from the past, the exhibition brings to life the people who have cared for the park and explores why public parks continue to matter so deeply to us today. From everyday moments to major milestones, it offers a rich and engaging experience that highlights the enduring role of public parks in community life.”
