A graduate of Ealing’s University of West London has been named a finalist in an international film composing competition, marking an early career success for the emerging composer.
Aadesh Deshmukh, who completed an MMus in composition for film and TV at the London College of Music last summer, was selected as a finalist in the ScoreLive Main Title competition. The contest challenges composers to produce an original main title with strong synchronisation potential and a distinctive theme.
Mr Deshmukh said he treated the competition as a professional exercise rather than a one-off entry. He said: “I approached it as a valuable addition to my portfolio rather than just a competition entry.”
As a finalist, Mr Deshmukh has been awarded a scholarship place on the GEMS Summer Film Scoring Programme in Valencia, Spain, where his music will be recorded by a professional orchestra.
He said: “Being selected as a finalist is incredibly rewarding and gives me strong confidence in my work as a film composer.”
Dr Simone Spagnolo, head of composition at the London College of Music, said: “We are incredibly happy about Aadesh’s outstanding achievement. He is a talented composer, and I am sure this award will provide an excellent platform for his future career.”
Since graduating, Mr Deshmukh has been working on an independent film and other smaller projects while seeking assistant roles in the industry.
