An Asda Express in West Ealing has been given the lowest possible food hygiene rating, with “urgent improvement necessary” in every area assessed by inspectors.
The store, at 96 Uxbridge Road, was inspected by Ealing Council food safety officers last month (13 July 2026) and received a rating of zero.
According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), “urgent improvement necessary” was recorded for hygienic food handling, the cleanliness and condition of the premises, and the management of food safety.
The three areas inspected by Ealing Council cover how food is prepared, cooked and stored; the cleanliness and condition of the premises, including hand-washing facilities and pest control; and the systems and checks used to make sure food is safe and that staff understand food safety requirements.
In its public response to the inspection, Asda said it agreed with the results and said the premises had since been “thoroughly cleaned”, with procedures put in place to ensure cleanliness was maintained.
It also said staff had been trained or retrained, given instruction and were under revised supervisory arrangements.
Asda said it was continuing to make improvements following the inspection, had taken action to address the issues identified and was cooperating with Environmental Health Officers.
An Asda spokesperson told EALING.NEWS: “We’d like to reassure customers that since the inspection in July, we’ve worked closely with the inspecting officer to address the points raised, and they have confirmed they are satisfied that these have now been resolved.
“We will be applying for a re-rating and expect this to better reflect the high standards we set.”
The West Ealing Asda Express opened in November 2023 on the site of the former Co-op, creating 16 jobs. At the time, it was the fourth Asda Express store to open.
The store’s published food hygiene rating remains zero pending any reassessment.
