Eager shoppers formed early queues at The Oaks Shopping Centre in Acton on Thursday morning (27 August) as TK Maxx opened the doors to its new 10,085 sq ft store.
A roaming band, featuring a singer, guitarist and saxophonist, entertained the crowd ahead of the 10am opening. Early customers could also take part in a “Spin to Win” game offering sweets, prizes and gift cards.
The new store, which sells clothing, accessories and homeware, occupies the former Wilko unit, which had been empty since the retailer closed its Acton branch in September 2023.
Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, attended the opening and told EALING.NEWS: “There’s a real buzz here. There’s a band and loads of people queuing up to get inside. I think it fulfils a real need in Acton. People won’t have to travel to Westfield or Ealing Broadway anymore. They’ve got one right on their doorstep.”
Dr Huq added: “I think Acton is definitely on the up. We’ve seen there’s loads more housing units going up, so we need shops for people to go to. And up to now, it’s only been supermarkets, really. So it’s brilliant to have this here. Acton is making itself known.”
A TK Maxx spokesperson said: “We are thrilled to be opening a brand-new TK Maxx store in Acton at The Oaks shopping centre. We look forward to welcoming the local community through our doors.”
Lu Webb, centre manager at The Oaks Shopping Centre, told EALING.NEWS: “I’m absolutely delighted to have TK Maxx opening at The Oaks Shopping Centre – it’s such a fantastic addition and I can’t wait to shop there!”
The Acton branch is TK Maxx’s third store in Ealing, joining its existing stores at Ealing Broadway and Westway Cross Retail Park in Greenford.
EALING.NEWS contacted TK Maxx about how many jobs the new Acton store has created but has not yet received a response.
