Ealing people recognised in King’s New Year Honours

A former headteacher at Havelock Primary School and Nursery in Southall and a paralympian who trains at Ealing Swimming Club are among those who have been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List.

Dr Clare Rees, who was head of the school from 2015 to 2023, is currently primary lead for Ealing Learning Partnership has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire.

In a posting on X, Havelock Primary School said: “Everyone at Havelock Primary is extremely proud of our very own Dr Clare Rees @ReesCM4 who was recognised for her services to education in this year’s #NewYearsHonours list with an MBE. We are proud and ecstatic of her achievement! Have a great New Year!”.

Paralympian Alice Tai, who trains at Ealing Swimming Club has also been made an OBE for services to swimming.  In the summer 2024 Paralympics, the swimmer won five medals – two golds, one silver and two bronzes.  Ms Tai adds the OBE to her previous MBE which was awarded in 2017.

In 2023, Ms Tai headed up Channel More, an initiative by performance nutrition brand Optimum Nutrition which has trained five people for five months to cross the English Channel in a 18-hour swim relay covering 21-miles of open water.
