Disused Southall garages set for housing development

A derelict garage site in Southall is set to be transformed into four family homes under plans announced by Ealing Council.

The council has appointed architect-developer Oddment to bring forward proposals for the Recreation Road site, which is currently occupied by nine disused garages. Subject to planning permission, the development would provide four three-bedroom council houses.

The project forms part of the council’s wider programme to make better use of small, underused plots of land across the borough. Through the Mayor of London’s Small Sites, Small Builders initiative, councils are encouraged to work with smaller developers to bring forward sites that larger housebuilders often overlook.

Councillor Louise Brett, Ealing Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for safe and genuinely affordable homes, said the scheme would help create new homes while making productive use of underused land.

Oddment, founded in 2024 by Ned Scott and Alex Somerville, plans to consult local residents before submitting its planning application. The developer said it would engage with neighbours through visits and leaflets to help shape the proposals.

Further small development sites across Ealing are expected to be offered for development later this year.
