Anonymous knife and bladed weapons surrender van coming to Greenford

A mobile knife surrender van is coming to Greenford on Wednesday (26 August 2026) as part of a month-long Home Office weapons surrender scheme, allowing people across Ealing to hand in knives and other bladed weapons anonymously and without being asked questions.

The van will be outside Greenford Library in Oldfield Lane South from 2pm to 6pm and is operated by FazAmnesty, a UK violence-prevention and community safety organisation which works to remove weapons from communities and runs education, mentoring and outreach programmes.

According to police, the Home Office’s weapons surrender scheme took 3,500 bladed weapons out of circulation across England last summer.

The Greenford visit is part of a wider programme taking the FazAmnesty surrender van to 24 London boroughs, including neighbouring Harrow, Hounslow and Hillingdon.

The Home Office has issued guidance on how knives and other bladed weapons should be taken to surrender points.

In a statement, the Home Office said: “Items must be contained and transported in a manner that does not cause alarm or distress to other members of the public. Items must be wrapped and placed in a sealed bag or box. They must not be carried openly at any time.

“Carrying bladed articles in public without a good reason or lawful authority is an offence. Carrying the items according to these instructions is likely to be considered a ‘good reason,’ namely that you are about to surrender the articles at your nearest surrender bin or at the mobile surrender van, if stopped by the police.”

Councillor Connie Hersch, Ealing Liberal Democrat culture, sport and communities spokesperson, told EALING.NEWS: “Liberal Democrats say that while knife crime in London has decreased, every case involving a young victim of knife crime is tragic. This initiative to collect illegal knives shows that Ealing is not free of the problem, and everybody needs to encourage young people to give up knives for their own safety and the safety of others.”

Posting about the Greenford visit on the Metropolitan Police’s Met Engage service, Greenford Broadway PCSO James Tupman said FazAmnesty staff would handle surrendered items: “Trained staff from the organisation will safely and discreetly deposit any items handed in into a secure, surrender bin inside the mobile surrender van. No personal information will be taken, or any questions asked.”
