Christmas card contest celebrates kindness

Bassam Mahfouz, the London Assembly member for Ealing and Hillingdon, has chosen two children from a Yiewsley primary school as the winners of his annual Christmas card design competition.

This year’s theme asked pupils at St Matthew’s Primary School what their “gift to the world” would be at Christmas, with shortlisted entries focusing on hope, joy and peace.

The front of the card carries the slogan “share the joy”, designed by Tara, a Year 6 pupil. The reverse was designed by Krishna in Reception and features the word “hope”.

Mr Mahfouz visited the school last week (3 December 2025) to present certificates to all entrants and book vouchers to the winner and runner-up.

He said: “At a time when there is so much anxiety and uncertainty around the world, the children of St Matthew’s Primary in Yiewsley have shared a powerful message through their gifts of hope, peace and joy. Their designs were creative, thoughtful and truly beautiful, and I’m delighted that thousands of people across Hillingdon and Ealing will experience that message as this card arrives on their doormats.”
