March 2025 screening and community updates from ActOne cinema in Acton

Acton’s ActOne March 2025 programming is packed with great films and community events.

Films showing from 1 March are: Memoir of a Snail, an adult stop-motion clay animation tragicomedy, 8 years in the making; The Last Showgirl, a dazzling drama with phenomenal Pamela Anderson in the role of a lifetime; To a Land Unknown, street-smart and piercing refugee drama-thriller; I’m Still Here, a tragic story of a Brazilian family shattered by arbitrary violence; The Big Lebowski, Coen brothers’ classic dark crime comedy; Vermiglio, complex and raw end of WWII family drama; A Complete Unknown, engaging biographical musical drama about Bob Dylan’s rise to fame.

From 7 March, we will be screening Cottontail, a poignant story of a final wish completed by travelling from Japan to Lake Windermere, England; The Summer with Carmen, a summer-kissed tale of friendship, queerness, filmmaking, and four-legged chaos; a double bill from acclaimed director Bong Joon Ho: his exceptional Parasite and new wild sci-fi comedy Mickey 17 with brilliant Robert Pattinson; Picnic at Hanging Rock, dreamlike and unsettling Australian mystery; and Academy-Award frontrunner, Brady Corbet’s monumental achievement of filmmaking, The Brutalist.

From 14 March, you can look forward to the documentary Ernest Cole: Lost & Found, an intimate documentary portrait of Ernest Cole, a photographer who paid the price for revealing to the world the true horrors of apartheid in South Africa; A 2024 Hindi-language film about a group of amateur filmmakers, Superboys of Malegaon. The movie is based on the true story of Nasir Shaikh and his friends; an American spy thriller Black Bag starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender; a Vatican-based political thriller and award-season favourite, Conclave.

Monthly Board Games Night is on 5 March from 6 pm. All enthusiasts and levels are welcome, free of charge.

7 March at 7 pm offers a brilliant Untitled Comedy, founded and moderated by Ryan Denham: ten stand-up comedians, one prize for the audience member. Entry is free, donations are welcome.

The third showing of Macbeth: David Tennant & Cush Jumbo is on 8 March at 12:30 pm.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, attend a live jazz concert featuring songs written, played, and about women, performed by Marta Mathea Radwan (vocals), Anita Łazińska (piano and vocals) and Irene Romero (double bass). Tickets are £10.

9 March at 12:30 pm belongs to two short documentaries, Cornwall Climate Care produced #ClimateScam? and Plan Z, followed by a live discussion panel. Tickets are on a pay-what-you-can sliding scale starting from £3

10 March at 6:40 pm, we are delighted to be hosting a live director Q&A with writer-director Patrick Dickinson. His beautiful Anglo-Japanese feature film Cottontail will be shown first, please note there will be no ads or trailers and the screening will start on time.

12 March at 6 pm, attend the monthly short film night, Sound & Vision. Tickets are only £7 for short films of all genres shown on a big screen, followed by meet and greet and networking drinks at the lounge afterwards.

National Theatre Live: The Importance of Being Earnest is a joyful reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy – third showing on Sunday 16 March at 12:30 pm.

17 March at 6:30 pm, another exquisite art documentary from Exhibition on Screen, Dawn of Impressionism: Paris 1874

Royal Ballet & Opera presents another LIVE broadcast performance for one night only – Romeo & Juliet ballet with a sensational ensemble and Prokofiev’s haunting score. Thursday 20 March at 7:15 pm. It is a ballet classic, enjoyed exceptionally on the big screen.

National Theatre Live: Dr Strangelove led by seven-time BAFTA winner Steve Coogan excelling in four roles, on Thursday 27 March at 7 pm.

On 27 March, we host our popular free Open Mic Night. Sign up from 7:30, performances start at 8 o’clock on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be acoustic performances, comedy, poetry, magic, spoken word and more.

Carers & Babies Club Tuesdays – The Last Showgirl on March 4 at 11:30 am and Picnic at Hanging Rock on March 11 at 11:30 am.

Hard of Hearing closed-captioned screenings on Wednesdays – The Last Showgirl on March 5 at 3:20 pm and Mickey 17 on March 12 at 5:05 pm.
