Match report: Gosport Borough 3 v Hanwell Town 2

In a game that had more twists than an Agatha Christie mystery, the Geordies ended so close to rescuing a point after going three goals down on Saturday (31 October 2026)

Hanwell Town had much the brighter start to the game without really threatening the Gosport goal, and were made to pay in the 13th minute as a deep corner found the home team’s Amadon Jallow at the back post, rising above the defence to head past keeper Sam Beasant.

The teams traded chances, with Henry Snee going closest for the Geordies, before Gosport snatched another just before half time, through Jordan Stepney’s header after the Hanwell defense had not been able to clear the ball from their own penalty area.

Early in the second half, Ollie Turner forced a good save from Gosport keeper James Holden as Hanwell attempted to force their way back into the contest.

It all looked as if the game had gone away from the Geordies after Gosport’s Kris Campbell came charging forward from the halfway line, cutting inside. On reaching the Hanwell penalty area, he fired the ball past Beasant into the top corner with a powerful finish.

Sadly, that was his last action in the game, as his goal celebration in the face of Hanwell’s Ade Olumuyiwa earned him a second yellow card, and therefore a red card from the referee.

Hanwell pressed forward as they knew a quick reply could turn the game around, and got it through George Knight from close range not long after.

Almost immediately, the Geordies had then a chance from the penalty spot as Holden brought down Robert Nditi on the edge of the area. Jordan Esprit stepped up, and many would have put their savings on the penalty being converted, but Holden chose right and pushed the shot away.

A goal at this point would have left the home side facing the marauding Hanwell team, seeking an equaliser, but that was not to be.

The Geordies kept pressing, time and again the Gosport keeper kept his team in the match with multiple saves as it looked only a matter of time before Hanwell were going to break through.

With seconds left of normal time, Joe Wilson fired home from the edge of the area to put the Geordies hot on the heels of the home side, but despite the addition of 5 minutes injury time, Hanwell couldn’t snatch a point.
