A Southall takeaway and its director have been ordered to pay a combined £9,600 after Ealing Council inspectors found dirty conditions and food being stored in ways that risked contamination.
Kabuli Grill Limited, which traded as Kabuli Charcoal Grill at Grand Union Enterprise Park, and its sole director Shahbaz Ahmad were found guilty of four food safety offences following a trial at Ealing Magistrates’ Court last month (14 August 2026).
The prosecution followed an unannounced inspection by Ealing Council’s food safety team in May 2025.
Inspectors discovered grease and food debris in food preparation areas, dirty electrical fittings and shelving, damaged surfaces and door frames, as well as drainage problems.
Food was also being placed in dirty containers, while partially wrapped raw meat was found stored above buckets containing other food. Rice was being stored in a dirty bucket next to cleaning chemicals.
Inspectors also found rice, yoghurt, lamb curry, chutney, gravy and noodles being kept at room temperature, creating conditions in which harmful bacteria could grow.
Kabuli Grill Limited and Mr Ahmad were each convicted of failing to correctly register the food business, poor cleanliness and maintenance, failing to protect food from contamination and unsafe temperature control of high-risk foods.
The company was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £2,000 costs and an £800 victim surcharge. Mr Ahmad received the same penalties, taking the combined amount to £9,600.
Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for decent living incomes, said: “Food businesses have a legal responsibility to keep people safe. The standards found at this takeaway fell well below what residents should expect.
“The council worked with the business over a long period, gave advice, issued notices, and explained what needed to change. Despite that, serious problems continued.
“We will continue to take the strongest possible action against businesses that break food safety laws and put the public at risk.”
Kabuli Charcoal Grill is no longer trading and a different business now operates from the same address.
