Match report: Gloucester City 1 v Hanwell Town 0

Hanwell Town lost their first game of the season away to Gloucester City on Saturday (22 August 2026).

A 54th minute Ade Olumiywa own goal was the difference between the teams, but the gap could have been much wider had it not been for some Sam Beasant goalkeeping heroics.

The first half was a muted affair and only really came to life shortly before the interval when Beasant made one of several superb stops to deny Ethan Dunbar.

After the break, Gloucester came out much the better side. Ashley Hemmings forced another good save from Beasant minutes before Olumuyiwa’s attempt to clear Morgan Lewis’ cross ended up in the Geordie net.

George Knight and Gabe George both had chances to equalise from distance but Hanwell will be disappointed about not creating more clearcut opportunities.

In contrast, Gloucester continued to press and were deserving of a second goal. Hanwell captain, Beasant, clearly disagreed though and did well to deny Joe Hanks and Harry Williams from inflicting further punishment.

Williams remained at the centre of events throughout the rest of the game. He had another attempt denied by a brilliant Roberto Nditi last-ditch block before being lucky to not see red after a late-challenge in injury time.

The Geordies will look to make amends on Saturday 29 August as they welcome Chichester City to The Oliver Connell & Son Stadium. Tickets can be found here.
