Trailfinders Women sign Rugby World Cup and Olympic champion Ruby Tui

Trailfinders Women have signed New Zealand international Ruby Tui ahead of the new Premiership Women’s Rugby season.

The 34-year-old joins the Ealing-based club after Trailfinders reached the PWR final last season.

Tui was part of New Zealand’s Olympic sevens team which won silver at Rio 2016 and gold at Tokyo 2020. She was also named World Rugby Women’s Sevens Player of the Year in 2019.

She later moved into the 15-a-side game and was part of the Black Ferns squad which won the 2021 Rugby World Cup. Tui scored a try as New Zealand beat England 34-31 in the final.

She has also played for Chiefs Manawa in New Zealand’s Super Rugby Aupiki competition.

Tui said: “Fizzing to sign with Trailfinders. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of women’s rugby and it’s the biggest and best women’s comp in the world right now.”

Trailfinders director of rugby Barney Maddison said: “Ruby is one of the most respected figures in the women’s game.”
