Ealing Studios has won the top prize at the Ealing Civic Society Awards 2026 for its multi-million-pound expansion, combining new film and television production facilities with the historic studios’ original architecture.
The award was presented on Tuesday (20 October 2026) at The Polygon, St Mary’s Church in South Ealing, by Nicholas Boys Smith, founder and chair of Create Streets.
The expansion includes a new 14,000 sq ft sound stage, workshops and offices, alongside refurbished production facilities. Judges praised the use of renewable technology and the design of the new buildings, which reflect the studios’ 1920s architecture.
South Ealing Cemetery was highly commended for improvements by Ealing Parks Foundation volunteers, who have helped restore a space previously affected by anti-social behaviour.
North Acton Square was commended for its transformation into a space for independent businesses and community activities, while a refurbished Edwardian house in Wyndham Road also received recognition.
Other shortlisted projects included Fallen Oak in Brentham Garden Suburb, improvements to the University of West London’s St Mary’s Road entrance and eight new flats at 197 Pitshanger Lane.
Two Ealing Council housing developments also made the shortlist: Buckingham Avenue, providing 41 homes, and Sussex Crescent in Northolt, where 26 affordable rental flats have replaced the former Northolt Park Social Club.
Ealing Civic Society chairman Ann Chapman said the awards, established in 1989, aim to encourage good design in buildings and public spaces across the borough.
