Ealing-raised Paralympian Hilmy Shawwal has returned to the Perivale athletics track where his sporting career began, two years after making history at the Paris Paralympics.
Shawwal became the first athlete to represent Tanzania in wheelchair racing at a Paralympic Games when he competed at Paris 2024.
Last week he returned to Perivale Park Athletics Track to meet 91 children taking part in the two-week Star Track Athletics Camp, run by Everyone Active and Ealing Council.
Shawwal first took up athletics at the Perivale track before representing Team Ealing at the London Youth Games and later training with the Weir Archer Academy.
During his return, he spoke to young athletes about his experiences and presented awards following a competition at the end of the camp.
Shawwal said: “Ealing is my home and Perivale Park Athletics Track is where my journey in athletics began, so returning as a Paralympian and meeting the next generation of young athletes was a really proud moment.
“I know what it feels like to be at the beginning of that journey and being able to share my experiences and encourage the young athletes meant a lot to me.”
