Why I’m standing: Natalia Kubica, Ealing Green Party, Hanwell Broadway

On 7 May 2026, residents in the Hanwell Broadway ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.

EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.

Here’s what Natalia Kubica, standing for Ealing Green Party in Hanwell Broadway, has to say:

Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward, and why you want to be a councillor for Hanwell Broadway?
Having grown up in Ealing and lived here my whole life, I have seen first-hand the difficulties our community faces – from lack of affordable housing to vital services being under threat. My priorities for Hanwell Broadway would be to advocate for protecting our irreplaceable environment and to represent the needs of our residents – from pushing to bring down energy bills to supporting carers to tackling the cost-of-living crisis.

What motivates you?
Living in Ealing myself, having friends and family here, and speaking to residents on the doorstep, I know that our community deserves better. I want to see real hope, real change, and a better future for us all. That is why I got into politics, and that’s why I’m standing to be a councillor.

What is your own personal connection to either Hanwell Broadway or any other part of the borough?
I have lived in Ealing my whole life and grown up here. I am very fond of this part of London and its people, which includes many of my friends and family.

What do you consider to be your top 3 political, work, or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
My first direct involvement in politics was in 2019 when I was involved in organising some of the student climate strikes, which brought the climate crisis to the forefront of the political agenda and resulted in the Government declaring a climate emergency.

During the covid-19 lockdowns, I started and coordinated a mutual aid group in my local area where we matched people in need of support with volunteers able to help. The group grew to over 300 members and made a real difference to lots of vulnerable residents.

As the membership secretary of Ealing Green Party, I’ve overseen our membership increasing fivefold over the last year. I’ve been working to engage all these new members and we’ve successfully increased our presence in Hanwell and West Ealing, and across the borough. We’re planning to use this momentum to increase our campaigning on issues affecting residents across Ealing and make a real difference to people’s lives here.

What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Hanwell Broadway faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
The number one thing I hear from residents in Hanwell Broadway and West Ealing is that the Council is unresponsive. I have heard story after story of residents bringing up concerns with their local councillors, only to hear no response or receive no real action. As a councillor, I would make sure to be accessible to residents including by holding regular surgeries, and help residents where I can.

One challenge that residents often tell us about is overdevelopment and the way new housing is being managed, for both new and existing residents. An example is the proposed development at Trumpers Way, which could potentially be up to 15 floors high, putting pressure on already stretched infrastructure and local services. The Green Party often says “we need the right housing, in the right place, at the right time” and this rings true in Hanwell and West Ealing – we need more housing, but this must be affordable and must be considered with existing residents’ needs in mind.

One issue that’s persistent in Hanwell and West Ealing is how the environment is looked after – both in terms of flytipping and littering, which residents mention to us all the time, and in terms of protecting our beautiful green spaces like Warren Farm – which was only recently given Local Nature Reserve status after years and years of residents tirelessly campaigning against the Labour Council’s continued plans to develop on it.

What do you love about Hanwell Broadway and the borough of Ealing?
Ealing is one of the greenest boroughs in London – I love the wide variety of open green spaces we have here despite being in the capital. It’s also full of lovely people from many different backgrounds. The rich and diverse culture in Ealing is beautiful, and the community spirit here is unlike any other, especially here in Hanwell and West Ealing. I also love the variety of shops on the buzzing high street in West Ealing – you’ll often find me in the charity shops there!

How accessible will you be to Hanwell Broadway residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
Residents can get in touch with me by email at hanwellbroadway@ealing.greenparty.org.uk
If elected, I will hold regular open meetings for residents to voice their concerns in person, as well as having contact details available for those who can’t make it or would rather contact me in writing – there is no better way to represent people than by actually speaking and listening to them, on their terms!
