A PhD student at Ealing’s University of West London has received national recognition for her work on prostate cancer.
Seazel Daynisha Fernandes, from the university’s School of Medicine and Biosciences, was awarded both the Top Student Award and Top Project Award by the Royal Society of Biology.
The awards recognise her academic performance and the quality of her final project, which has helped lay the foundations for a potential new approach to prostate cancer treatment.
After completing a degree in Biomedical Science, she was awarded a Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship, enabling her to continue her research at UWL with full funding.
Seazel Daynisha Fernandes said: “I am deeply honoured to receive this award from the Royal Society of Biology. This recognition means a great deal to me… I hope my journey can inspire others to continue striving towards their goals despite challenges.”
Professor Kamyar Afarinkia, Professor of Drug Discovery at UWL, said: “She has laid the foundation for an entirely new approach to treatment of prostate cancer.”
He added the achievement highlights the university’s focus on research and training future scientists.
