On 7 May 2026, residents in the Ealing Common ward will vote to choose who represents them at Ealing Council.
EALING.NEWS has asked all candidates standing to become a councillor, 7 questions about who they are, what they hope to deliver and why they want residents to vote for them.
Here’s what Connie Hersch, standing for Ealing Liberal Democrats in Ealing Common, has to say:
Tell us a bit about yourself, your priorities for the ward and why you want to be councillor for Ealing Common?
I have been a councillor since 2022 in Ealing Common ward where I live. All current Lib Dem councillors are standing to defend their current seats. Ealing is my home of choice and I would like it to be as friendly to residents as possible.
What motivates you?
Improving the lives of people in Ealing. Making sure the council serves its residents as best as possible. Helps to resolve issues and creates and athmosphere which is safe and community orientated.
What is your own personal connection to either Ealing Common or any other part of the borough?
I have lived in Ealing over 30 years and in Ealing Common, my ward, for over 20.
What do you consider to be your 3 top political, work or personal achievements and what impact have they had?
The biggest problem we have had in Ealing Common was around drugs (taking and dealing). We had an active drug dealer moving into a housing association flat. After intensive work with the local police, the councils’ safer neighbourhood team and the housing associating we got two flats closed. Additionally we had a CCTV camera installed next to the Ealing Common tube station . The other achievements are around the cleanliness of our streets either fly-tipping or leave cleaning.
What do you consider to be the top 3 challenges Ealing Common faces and how will you as a councillor address them?
For Ealing Common
1. Crime and ASBs: we work very closely with our local police team who are responsive to our reports. However, we also encourage residents to officially report crime in order for this to influence the local priorities.
2. Clean Streets / reduce flytipping: we pushed the council to reduce the fee for household collects, our idea of a community skip was accepted for the next budget.
3. Listening to our residents and acting on their behave esp as the council is not very accessible and easy to communicate with.
What do you love about Ealing Common and the borough of Ealing?
It is still the Queen of the Suburbs with many green spaces, which we have and always will protect. A good example was our scrutiny on the draft local plan which had many of our green spaces with less protection and the saving of Warren Farm as a nature reserve.
How accessible will you be to Ealing Common residents and how can they get in contact with you now and if elected how will you ensure you are accessible to them in the future?
Most residents like email which is convenient for them and creates a case trail for me which is important as answers from officers are not always fast. We also offer a monthly surgery which is open – no pre-booking necessary. We provide also phone numbers.
